My completed school magazine

This is my completed school magazine. I called it 'EEHS Snapshot' because it is catchy and is the theme of the magazine, photography. It is in the  I have included the Epsom and Ewell logo on the front to make it look professional. At the top of the magazine it has a clear eye-catching headline 'Whats hot. Whats new. All in this weeks EEHS Snapshot' this catches the audience's eye as it flows well and is exciting to find whats new in the photography department. I have used high key colours because it shows a clear layout and makes the magazine and the school look proffesional and welcoming.

I used a main image for the background, which is of sixthform students looking at their photography work they have achieved and show proud expressions on their faces. It also shows a student looking at her camera which shows shes interested in what shes doing and relates to the topic of the magazine. I have also included 4 photos, three of sixthform students using resources in school and a photograph that a student has taken which will also included inside the magazine as a poster. The images I have taken give a true insight of what the students are up to and introduces the subject to parents who may want to see how well their children are doing and also for future students who might want to take photography as an A-level option.

The headlines I have used are catchy 'Practice makes perfect' ,'students get creative' ,  'interested in finding out what makes photography good?' . These are all encouraging headlines and allows the reader to make you want to read it. The use of a rhetorical question allows the customer to think and stop, ''yes i do want to find out what makes photography good.''

I have included featured stories on the front cover 'Cameron at work using his new Photoshop skills' this makes the reader want to buy it as they may want to know about this useful software and may want to try it themselves, or if its a parent they may want to see how well students are doing.

If I could improve my magazine, I would add a more exciting picture on the cover as photography is a fun subject. I would add a photograph of students taking photos that inspire them to show that they are going out and exploring rather than looking over the photos they have taken. I would also add a competition to it to make it more exciting to get students involved and can win stuff.

My magazine went well and I followed my plan as I used bright colours, included featured stories, stuck with the layout of the magazine and used the pictures I wanted to use, catchy headlines and included a free poster inside. However I did say I would have a feature story of sixthform students getting involved with the younger years showing them how to use the different aspects of a camera.

School magazine analysis

Magazine 1:

The magazine title 'chs' is shortened for the word chosen, this is effective as it could mean that this school is a good place to be and makes the audience want to choose this magazine for valuable reasons. The issue number of the magazine is placed underneath which tells the customer how many of the magazines have been produced and also the season it is in, as Autumn is when the children start new schools and step up to a new year. Positioned next to the date is the website of the magazine which allows buyers to go online to view more information and insight of school life. Placed next to this, is the cost of the magazine which lets the buyer know how much it is.

The  image is of a school girl as the magazine is for news about school. The camera angle is a mid-shot photograph, this is effective as it shows the girl from the waste upwards, which allows the audience to see her smart uniform. The shot also emphasises the mood which is happy as she has a smile on her face. This also shows that school life is good and the girl is happy to be there. In the background it shows a school car park which illustrates the environment around her.

In the top right hand corner of the magazine is a special offer available in the issue. 'FREE 10 PAGE HEALTHY COOKING GUIDE' this offers the parents and students to cook new recipes at home, this also shows the school in a positive light as it shows the school is introducing healthy food and wants the children to be healthy and energetic.

The magazine also has many subtitles and stories to tell ' TURNER: ''my big plans!''. This gives children an opportunity to read other children's experience and future plans. The sir name 'TURNER' is shown in capital letters which gives a clear breach of someone's own life story and makes the buyer want to read it. Another subtitle is 'GCSE RESULTS: WHY WE'RE THE BEST' this is shown in capitals as it wants to show the positivity and greatness as to why they are the best school in the area. It also gives an insight as to what will be shown in the magazine and gives others the opportunity to see why that certain school stands out from others inperticular. Another subtitle is 'NEW TO SCHOOL? how to settle your child and overcome problems' gives a guide to how parents can give advice and also gives them information on any problems they may face. This is in capital letters and highlighted as its a major point what the magazine is about. It also persuades parents to buy this certain magazine as it gives useful tips on how to help. Also another subtitle underneath 'Our guide to coping with teenage stress' allows students to cope with any problems or pressure they may face. This is useful as it helps them to go through step by step anything that may occur.

At the bottom of the magazine is a featured article 'WHY CHOSEN IS DIFFERENT TO OTHERS by Mayor of Cheltenham' this is a useful as it gives others the choice to chose a school which is unique and can give every opportunity to achieve as it possibly can. It also persuades the member of public to choose this magazine as it offers information as to why it is different.

The overall font used is simple and is in white as it is easy to read and looks professional. It also contrasts with the background. The font overlaps over the picture which creates a consistent layout.

Magazine 2:

I have chosen this school magazine to anaylse as it focuses on certain topics e.g- Music and having the role as headboy.

The magazine title 'Chosenhill' is in white writing which goes well with the light colour scheme. They have put the name of the school as the title as it is the main focus on what the magazine is about.  Also the word 'Chosen' suggests that this school is a good place to be because it is saying that it is the chosen one.

The main image is of a sixthformer posing as head boy as this is the main feature of the magazine. It is a mid-shot which gives a clear view of the image and covers most of the magazine. The expression on his face is happy as the boy is happy and his hands are loosely by his side which shows he's relaxed. However his uniform isnt completely smart as his top button is undone this could conote that the boy is trying to show off his important role.

The magazine has a variety of feature stories. 'Chosen Hill School Presents 'The Rock Band' House Music' this is effective as it gives positive fun news which gives the public an insight and people who like the music genre rock will want to buy it. The main featured story  'Head Boy' is shown on the magazine. 'Head Boy' is shown in a white bigger font than the rest of the other featured stories as it shows importance. 'Who are the front runners for this high accolade and get to know them through their blogs'. This gives more information on the runners up of head boy.

There isn't a website, price or an issue number or date included on the magazine which
shows the reader that they arent professional and lack time on making their school look
good.

The colour scheme of the magazine is white and blue and yellow which works well and it is clear and stylish. The font is also simple which gives it a professional look and It also persuades the reader to read on because it looks good.

Magazine 3:

I have chosen to anaylse this magazine as it has a  different layout to most magazines available.

The title of the magazine is the school name 'Harlow High' this is in a yelllow font which also represents the school logo.

The image used is of two sixth form students which look very hard working and are smiling which show the school has a positive vibe towards the students. The camera angle is a close up shot which grabs the audiences attention as it shows their emotion and hand gestures.
The feature stories include of 'GCSE Results 94.5% A*-C' this shows that the school is reaching good results and results matter to the public as it shows the schools ability and achievements. The magazine also includes 'Charity event raises £1500' this is shown on the front cover as it shows the school is willing to help important charities.

The colour scheme is grey, yellow and black this is affective as its simple and is consistent and matches the school logo. The font is yellow which stands out and is clear against the background picture.

The issue number is placed under the logo which allows the buyers to know how many of this issue has been produced so far. The date is also shown which tells the buyer to know when the magazine came out.

At the bottom of the magazine is the school moto 'The key to success, opens many doors' this shows this magazine includes news on achievement and success.  It also shows the school itself is showing the students by being successful gains much more opportunities in the future which connotes the fact that they have put GCSE results on the front to show success.
